From 2002 to 2008 I sailed the east and north coasts of Australia and the Tanimbar Islands in south-east Indonesia. I visited isolated beaches on remote coastlines and saw many beautiful shells washed up from the sea.
I found myself collecting the shells, especially the tiny ones. Later I became intrigued with the washed up coral. The cataloguer in me had to put them in order. I did this either on the beach or the boat, for hours on end, in what became a meditation.
Photos of these shell and coral arrangements have been printed onto cards.
